On Sunday afternoon 11 Dec, the Loch Garman Youth Band will begin its seasonal performances by playing in the Wexford Ladies Choir Annual Christmas concert in the Friary Church.
The following week, 15th Dec at 19:30, they will give their own concert, ‘Brass for the Belfry’ in St. Iberius Church featuring popular music and some favourite Christmas carols. The concert is in aid of the restoration fund for the Church’s clock tower, which has undergone extensive repair in recent times. Tickets will not be required as a retiring collection will be held.
Next Sunday 6th March, Mothers Day, the Loch Garman Youth Band will play for midday mass at Rowe Street Church.
The music will be from the Irish, French and English religious traditions and the group will also play Praise My Soul written by Taghmon’s own Henry Francis Lyte, whose 200th Curacy anniversary was celebrated last year.
On Saturday 12th December the Loch Garman Band will begin its seasonal performances by playing during 6:00pm mass in Rowe Street Church and again the following morning, Sunday 13th December during 11:00am mass in Bride Street Church.
The Loch Garman senior and youth band will be playing in Taghmon and at St. Iberius Church over the weekend of October 3 and 4 for the 200th anniversary of Henry Francis Lyte's curacy of Taghmon and the annual Harvest Thanksgiving Service.
Henry Francis Lyte, a graduate of Trinity, a poet and a gifted hymn writer, held a curacy in Taghmon parish in 1815-1816.
His most famous and wholly universal hymn, Abide With Me, has been sung at every FA Cup Final since 1927 as well as for solemn occasions such as those at Remembrance Day commemorations.
